Summer Tires

Every year, the choice of tire brands and models available increases, and selecting the right tire can become complicated. Our experts will be happy to assist you in making the right choice.

Having a specific model of tire for summer (or all-season) is not mandatory, but we strongly recommend not driving with winter tires in the summer. Winter tires are designed to grip snow and ice and to withstand cold temperatures. Therefore, they are likely to deteriorate much faster during the summer season given the extreme heat of the pavement on our roads.

To avoid rapid wear of your winter tires in the summer, it would be important to consider having two separate sets: one for winter and one for the other three seasons. This allows you to keep both your summer and winter tires for a longer time, thus saving you money.

It's important to note that summer tires regain their optimal grip when the temperature reaches at least 7°C (about 45°F).

WINTER TIRES

Since December 15, 2014, a tire designed for winter driving is a tire that has this pictogram on it or a tire that is equipped with studs. Your vehicle must be fitted for winter from December 1st.

When to change winter tires - The 25-cent test

This is the classic test to determine if your winter tires are still safe for the winter season: insert a 25-cent coin into one of the grooves of the winter tire, with the caribou's nose facing the bottom of the tire. If you can see the tip of the caribou's snout, your tire has less than 6/32 of an inch (4.8 mm) left, so it won't last a full season of 10,000 km.
